How much does a bathroom remodel cost in southern NH?

Every bathroom remodel starts the same way. Someone pulls up one loose tile, looks underneath, and says "huh." (That "huh" has a price. We'll get to it.)

Quick answer: In southern New Hampshire, a single bathroom remodel by a contractor usually costs between about $8,000 and $11,000, based on what Extreme Makeover customers reported paying. A vanity swap can be under $1,000. Jobs covering two or three rooms run $20,000 to $25,000. Nationally, NerdWallet puts most bathroom remodels at $6,600 to $18,000.

These numbers come from our own customers. They posted what they paid in their reviews, and we haven't rounded anything.

National range for comparison: $6,600 to $18,000 for a typical remodel, and over $80,000 for an extensive high-end one (NerdWallet, 2026).

Labor and material prices have climbed since some of these jobs, so treat the older numbers as a floor, not a quote.

What does a bathroom remodel cost in southern NH in 2026?

A full single-bathroom remodel in southern New Hampshire usually lands between $8,000 and $11,000 when the layout stays the same. That covers tear-out, new tile, a vanity, fixtures, paint and trim. Budget more if you're moving plumbing, building a custom tile shower, or doing more than one room at once.

The table above is the honest version of a price list. It's also why every estimate starts with a visit: two bathrooms that look identical from the doorway can be very different once the wall comes off. (Bathrooms are like icebergs. Most of the expensive part is out of sight, and it's usually damp.)

What makes one bathroom cost twice as much as another?

Five things move the price more than anything else.

  1. Moving plumbing. Keeping the toilet, sink and shower where they are is the single biggest money saver. Moving a drain means opening floors and sometimes ceilings below.
  2. The shower. A tile walk-in shower with a niche, bench and glass door costs far more than a one-piece insert. It also looks far better, which is the whole problem.
  3. What's behind the walls. Rot, old leaks and mold don't show up on the estimate until someone opens the wall. This is the "huh" from the top of the page.
  4. Tile. Large-format tile, mosaics and patterns take longer to lay. More cuts mean more hours.
  5. How many rooms. Doing two bathrooms, or a bath plus a laundry room, in one go costs less per room than doing them years apart. One crew, one mess, one clean-up.

If you want to see what that looks like on a real job, here are our bathroom remodels with photos and prices.

What's included in a bathroom remodel?

A full bathroom remodel normally includes tear-out, any framing or subfloor repair, plumbing and electrical work, cement board and drywall, tile, the vanity and top, fixtures, paint, and trim. One customer's master bath, half bath and laundry room job covered the tear-out, floors, walls, cabinets, plumbing, electrical, shower, tile and painting. That's a fair summary of the whole trade, really.

What it doesn't include is the stuff you choose: the vanity, the tile, the faucet. You can buy those yourself or have the contractor source them. Either way, decide before work starts. A faucet that doesn't fit the vanity is a fun discovery on day four, not day one.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

A straightforward single-bathroom remodel usually takes one to two weeks of work. One of our bathroom repairs, with rot behind the shower, went from tear-out to finish in under a week. Bigger jobs take longer, and special-order materials can add weeks of waiting before anyone picks up a hammer.

The schedule killer is almost never the work itself. It's the glass door that ships in six weeks, or the tile that's back-ordered. Order the long-lead items first.

What we actually see behind bathroom walls

Here's what turned up on real jobs, in our customers' own words:

  • "There was rot and ants behind the walk-in shower as well as some mold and damage to one of the wall boards and some floor tile damage." The shower came out, the room became a half bath with a linen closet, and the whole job took under a week. ($10,200, 2022)
  • A homeowner's "supplier shipping me wrong items" and boxes "with hidden damage" on a two-bathroom job. Not behind the wall, but just as common. ($22,000, 2022)
  • A faucet the homeowner had bought "did not fit into the space meant for it." The crew found another one and finished the job.

None of these are disasters. They're Tuesday. The difference is whether your contractor tells you the same day, with options and a price, or quietly adds it to the invoice.

Is a bathroom remodel worth it?

For most homes, yes. Bathroom remodels often recoup at least 60% of their cost, and mid-range remodels may recoup up to 80% in added home value, according to the Remodeling 2025 Cost vs. Value Report, as reported by NerdWallet.

The rest of the value is harder to put in a table: a shower that doesn't leak into the ceiling below, a floor that isn't soft by the toilet, and one less room you apologise for when people visit.

How to keep a bathroom remodel on budget

  • Keep the layout. Same spots for the toilet, sink and shower.
  • Get the price in writing first, and ask what happens if something turns up behind the wall. Our customers keep mentioning that the quote held: "His quote was just what he charged me." (Watch out for the quote that grows legs halfway through the job.)
  • Pick fixtures before work starts, and check the sizes against the vanity.
  • Keep a cushion for whatever is behind the tile. You'll probably need some of it.
  • Bundle rooms if you're planning more than one.

The bottom line

A bathroom remodel in southern New Hampshire usually costs $8,000 to $11,000 for one room, less for a quick fix and more for a gut job with a custom shower. The number that matters most is the one in your written quote, and whether it survives the first loose tile. (Ours tend to. "Huh" is included.)
